Fort Smith High School
Dee Carroll

Married to Patty (Jones) from the class of 60 and have two grown children, Chris our son and Heather our daughter. Two grandchildren, one from each child. Austin is 12 and Heather's son; Luca is one and Chris's son. Chris is married to Chiara who is from Cisterna, Italy. They are presently in Milan, Italy for a year where he is working on a masters in Hospital Administration. Hopefully we will get them back in 11 mos. Heather is back in school studying to be a Special Ed teacher.  She now works in the Fort Smith Public School System as an assistant in the Special Ed department and is attending UAFS.

Patty works part-time at John Mays Jewelers and crappie fishes whenever possible at Lake Ouachita. We have a small houseboat there, which also provides a home away from home since I office in Little Rock. A drive over to the lake is better than an apartment in LR. I am Director of Education with Arkansas Hospitality Association. I place hospitality curriculum in secondary and postsecondary schools around the state. This effort began in 2000 when I was invited to initiate the program and have seen success over the last three years. Prior to that I was the Director of the Fort Smith Convention and Visitors Bureau for ten years from 1990-2000. It was enjoyable being a part of the Downtown and Riverfront Developments and seeing tourism grow as a part of Fort Smith's economy.

Before becoming involved with the City, Patty and I spent about 20 years in a home furnishings and gift business that we sold in 1987. This was prior to me getting involved with a three-year effort called the Redevelopment of Downtown Fort Smith.

We are looking forward to retirement with plans for a lot of time at the lake and doing the things we enjoy. We are fortunate to still have our health and plan to live life to its fullest. Patty has been a wonderful partner and we are looking forward to the next  20/30 years together.
