After high school I spent some time at Arkansas Tech before I joined the Army. While stationed in Germany I met and married
Margaretha, my wife of 41years. We were blessed with three sons: Robert, Richard, and Roger. I finally got my three R's!
In 1969 I was placed on orders for Long Ben, Vietnam and assigned to
Headquarter Assistance Command as Transportation Liaison NCOIC. In 1973, my family and I were sent to Okinawa for a
three-year stay, which we all enjoyed. Then it was back to Germany. The eleven years we spent in Germany were some of the
most rewarding years of my military service.
Retiring in 1983, I joined my father's company and in 1988 I started a new company, Triple R Mfg. My sons and wife became
involved with my endeavor and has become its greatest asset.
My father sold his company in 1990 and passed away two years later. The new owner approached me to see if I would be
interested in purchasing dad's company. A deal was made and my father's company is back in family hands. We have expanded
the company to new heights including a new building in 1999.
After almost 20 years of smoking I quit in 1980. I thought I was home free after no health problems until 2002 when I
started having some chest pains. It turned out that one artery was 95% blocked. A stent was placed in that artery in August
of 2002. During chest x-rays a spot was noticed on my left lung. It was determined to be cancer and in November 2002 the
upper half of my left lung was removed. Luckily it was caught early enough that the cancer had not spread.
Most of my time today is spent enjoying time with my wife; doing yard work or swimming. I work three days a week just to
keep my boys in line and the rest of the time you can find me out on the golf course (rain or shine). We love the Fort
Smith area, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming reunions - 50th and 60th.
