In the fall of 1958 I went to Arkansas State Teachers College to try out for a Football Scholarship. I was given one on the second day of practice. Before our first ball game my right knee was injured, and I played the first seven ball games with my knee taped. In the eighth game I was able to play at full speed but injured my left knee in the fourth quarter. That was the last ball game I played.
During the summer of 1958 I met my wife Judy Echols while working at Whittaker Swimming Pool. Actually we had been around one another when we were very young. Judyís family lived next door to my Grand Parents on Jenny Lind. Judy remembers sitting on the porch and talking with my Grandmother.
We have been married for 48 years, have three children, Jeff, Kim, and Rod, eleven grand children and step children, four great grand children. When our children were in Jr. High and High School Judy went to nursing school. Made excellent grades and worked for twenty-two years at St. Edwards before taking disability in 2002. Our eldest son Jeff went back to school and graduated with honors from U of A Ft. Smith in 2007. He made the National Deanís List and received a Scholarship. Our youngest son Rod is a Para-Medic and Supervisor for Air-Evac at Harrison. Our daughter Kim and family live with us in Springdale.
I was employed by Motive Parts Warehouse, and Superior Motor Exchange in Ft. Smith.
Since being called into the Ministry in 1966 I have tried to minister wherever doors have been opened. Some of those doors have been in Nursing Homes, City and County Jails, also Cummins Prison. We have made two missionary trips to Mexico to build churches. We worked on the church during the day and held Services every night. I have been the Pastor of three Assembly of God Churches.
I have also worked for the Springdale Schools as a Para Professional in the Special Ed Classes, and drive a Handicap School Bus.
We are making plans to be at the reunion.
